Labor Day weekend

It's been a while that we had a 3 day weekend as a family, and it was so nice! Hubby finally started working Monday - Friday instead of his usual Tuesday - Saturday, or at one point even Wednesday - Sunday.

It wasn't a very huge deal for us though since his schedule also gave us the luxury of putting Julian in daycare for only 3 to 4 days out of the week. As two full time working parents, that is definitely something we were so grateful we were able to do.

Saturday was spent in St Petersburg, about a 45 min drive from where we live, shopping at a great little Italian Deli & Grocery market, and heading to the Pier to enjoy the sun, and a Dolphin Boat Tour.

I have to admit that this is only my 2nd Dolphin Boat Tour in the almost 18 years I've lived in Florida! And since I had no clue how cool these little tours can be, I never ever took any of our many friends and family members who like to visit! Oooh, I have some catching up to do! So if you come visit... expect a boat tour!! Without a great zoom lense it wasn't worth taking pictures on my iPhone unfortunately, but I can tell you that we saw so many dolphins on this 1.5 hr tour, it was amazing! They jumped, swam back and forth under the boat and even rode the waves on the side of the boat as we drove off. Simply amazing, and breathtakingly beautiful! With all the pelicans at the Pier, it was definitely a Flipper kinda day :)

Both of these cool dudes of mine are getting a hair cut this week! Or else they will be competing with my long mane soon :)

Our dream house on the left... well, not this particular one even though it was gorgeous, but having a gorgeous house right on the water in sunny Florida with your own boat dock... wouldn't that be a dream?

The rest of the long weekend was spent in the "baby" pool in the backyard cooling down! Some parts of the world may already experience Fall and almost Winter weather, but it's still steaming hot in Florida. And now we're just waiting for the next weekend to get here!

Me and my sidekick

It's a mommy and Julian kind of morning. We all slept in (which means getting up at 8:30am!) and Julian made sure I opened my eyes because "Mommy, sun up!"

Hubby had to go to work so we just settled on the bed, cuddled and watched some TV.

We did our weekly FaceTime session with my parents in Bangkok and then it was almost time to have lunch already. Julian played with his new dump truck - he's been asking to get one forever. Whenever we drive by a big dump truck he sighs wistfully and says "Wish we had one of those." When I was  browsing Home Goods yesterday during my lunch hour, I found the cutest and biggest dump truck so of course I had to get it for him! I never thought I'd enjoy buying boy toys for my baby so much!

What I love is that he has been asking to speak to his grandma and grandpa, so whenever I can, I'll just give them a quick call or just try to reach out via FaceTime. My dad is a tech geek, so most of the time his iPad is within his reach and we are almost always successful! Given we try it at the right time, which isn't always possible with a 12 hour time difference :)

Work has been so crazy and busy recently that I haven't had much time to even get online, and when I get home at night I'm so tired that the last thing I want to do is sit in front of my lap top. I'm sure you know exactly how that is :) My team and I have been preparing for a big presentation next week so that's what I have been living and breathing recently and I'm anxious to get it over with Wednesday afternoon!

Lunch was quick and easy today... salami sandwiches, green peas, potato leek soup and grapes. And now it's time for an afternoon nap :)

Tomorrow is Father's Day in the US, so we'll be hanging out with Daddy and spoil him!

Going to the ballgame!

If you knew me well, you'd ask "What? You went where? To a ballgame??"

Wer mich gut kennt wuerde jetzt fragen "Was?? Wo warst Du? Ballgame??"

Yep, I don't like sports. Not a fan at all of watching any kind of sports. I think the only time I will actively push the remote to select a channel that is playing some kind of sports is during the Olympic Games (Gymnastics can be fun!), or during the Soccer World Cup when I'm cheering on Germany.

But other than that, I do not watch any sports. Ok, I have to admit I also haven't participated in any sports.

When I met hubby I was soooo excited to hear that he - as an American guy - does not like to watch sports either! Yippeeeeeahhhh! I think I hit the jack pot! No football, no baseball, no basketball... yay for me!! Instead, he watches other weird stuff that I don't like to watch, but that's another story.

So why did I go to a Baseball game?

Warum bin ich also zum Baseball Spiel gegangen?

Because I have a really cool employer... who gave us free tickets, free parking, free food vouchers, and a Baseball cap came with each ticket! I was even allowed to bring my baby (ok, only because others cancelled, but yay!). That's probably one of very few times you'll ever see me with a baseball cap. Not that I hate them. I just don't have many around, and my hair is so thick that unless I put it in a ponytail the cap will rise high, and I think my head is just too big for a cap period.

I wasn't the only freak who brought her kid :) my boss brought his son, my peer brought his son, others brought their sons... hmm, noone brought their daughter. Anyway, the parking was great - right across the street from the stadium, we had awesome seats almost at the front, and we had $11 each to spend on all sorts of junk food! I took the day off so I could bring Julian, and he kind of had a good time! He was busier playing with the cool seat that folds up and down, and playing with coworkers around us. By the end of the day, I could have easily given him away to my coworker, he would have gone with her! Not that she'd ever be able to pry him off me.

Oh, our team won - Tampa Bay Rays. I had no clue what I was watching. I think I kinda annoyed my coworker sitting next to me with my silly questions.

Oh, unser Team hat gewonnen - Tampa Bay Rays. Ich hatte keine Ahnung was da vorlief.

Hey - there is me with the cap on! Julian wouldn't wear his. He was busy licking his hand. Yes... my son licks his whole hand instead of just his messy doritos fingers.

There he is throwing peanuts... my coworker decided to have him throw peanuts at her, so she could catch them with her cap. Revenge is coming when she has her grandchildren.

Me with a "say cheese" kinda grin - even though Julian didn't want to cheese it up.

I needed proof that I was ACTUALLY at the stadium. BTW, Julian's has been using the word "actually" since last week. I always have to giggle when he does. "Mommy, me want my water please. (pause) Actually, me want my milk now please."

Mother's Day Flowers

These flowers are still from Mother's Day, sent from my lovely mother in law :)

We didn't do anything special, went out in the morning to look at more homes from a different builder, then spent the rest at home, relaxing, playing in the backyard with lots of WATER (Julian just loves getting in and out of the baby pool, splashing water - mostly on us - and helping to water the lawn), and finished the day by grilling steaks for dinner. And my wonderful hubby got me a new camera - the Canon EOS Rebel T3!! Yay!! He said he got an amazing deal and couldn't say no, so I certainly won't say no :) Now I just have to spend some time getting to know the camera... and one of these days I would love to take a class! I'm more of a hands on learner, so if you show me, I get it much quicker than trying to read a manul.

I hope you enjoyed your mother's day as well... whether you're a mom yourself, or you were able to spend the day with your own mom! I'm always a little sad that I can't spend the day with my mom, who's all the way in Thailand... I just know that I love and appreciate her so much, I couldn't have asked for a better mom <3

Animal Kingdom

My friend Tanja flew in from Hamburg last night.

Brought a ton of my favorite sweets... Knoppers and Yes Toertchen!!

And easter candy for Julian :)

Disney was on our list to do today, surprisingly hubby was given the day off!!

We let Tanja decide where to go and she chose Animal Kingdom over Magic Kingdom.

My 3 day Florida pass expired last time we went to Disney, but the deal was just too sweet, so I bought another 3 day pass.

$99 plus tax for 3 days, any days, any park between 4/14 and 5/25, instead of $95 plus tax for just one day!

I'm sure I'll be back with Julian even if it's without hubby!

He does really well on the 1 hour drive and I want to take him back to Magic Kingdom, and Epcot Center.

I was disappointed that the Tree of Life was closed due to technical issues :(

The weather was gorgeous, but it was crowded! Springbreak...

Julian had hs name written in Thai in Asia... there was a little booth with lovely people from Thailand so they wrote his name for him :)

My baby was so tired and exhausted that he feel asleep around 3pm, sitting in my lap... while watching The Lion King show! Incredibly loooouuuuuud music and singing, so I put my hands over his ears once he fell asleep :) I had to fight falling asleep myself! Almost fell over twice!

We watched one more show, went on a ride in Dinoland, and then had dinner at The Rainforest Cafe, I just love this place!

Southwest eggrolls as an appetizer.

Just love all the animals, trees, flowers, the "rain"... I just wonder how they ever clean all of this? Hmm...

And our glorious volcano dessert... brownies with vanilla icecream and lots of whipped cream.

The four of us didn't finish it :)

Busch Gardens and Girl Night

Another beautiful day in Florida.

I just love the spring, when we have around 80 F weather, sunshine, blue skies...

And a nice cool breeze!

As long as I have taken my daily Zyrtec I can actually go outside, and the pollen count has come down just in the last few days.

Hubby had the day off so we decided we should take Julian back to Busch Gardens.

Hubby has been planting the seed though lol kept asking Julian since last night where he wanted to go and feeding him the answer "Busch Gardens!"

We were able to see a bunch of animals, ride the choo choo train (Julian's most favorite part),

and then the additional highlight of the day was Sesame Street World!

We brought Julian's new swim clothes (had to buy a 3T shirt and 2T pants for him) and we spent almost an hour just walking around the kids pool area.

To our amusement, Julian's favorite toys were fallen leaves.

He would pick them up, throw them in the water, pick them up again, throw them again, etc.!

We were on time to watch the live animal show as well, and Julian loved it!
Seeing the birds fly freely around in the arena, the dogs, cats, etc... so much fun!

Right after dinner, I was ready to leave for my girl's night with my dear friend Shelly.

We were neighbors many many years ago and stayed close friends all these years.

Just a quick girl's night out, but still great time to chat in the car and just watch a cute movie together.

We picked "The Vow", based on a true story.

A young couple gets into an accident, the wife wakes up not remembering her husband.

But he fights to win her back and of course.. happy end.

I just love Rachel McAdams and the male lead definitely was eye candy as well!

Lazy Saturday

We really had a very lazy Saturday morning.

Every once in a while doing that is such a bliss!

We are typically so busy with work and balancing that with being parents at the same time.

So on weekdays, it's always a rush it seems... getting up, getting ready, dropping Julian off at his nannny's, work, picking up Julian, making dinner, bathtime, storytime, bedtime.

On our days off we have gotten so used to getting out of the house with Julian because he has enjoyed this so much ever since he was a tiny little baby.

I can tell you that was hard!!

Both hubby and I are stay at home type of people. We love staying up late Friday and Saturday, sleeping in on the weekends, being lazy around the house, watching movies or TV, reading a book, doing things around the house, going out for late lunches and very late dinners.

Then Julian came along and he was such a busy little baby that we found ourselves going out and doing a lot of things with him, since he loved it and didn't get antsy so quickly.

And we have kept this up.

Whether we go out shopping, to the park, feeding the fish at the pond, the zoo, museum, theme park, lunch with friends... there is always something on the agenda.

And with Julian still taking a 2 hour nap in the afternoon it's typically something we try to do in the morning, so that we can have naptime after lunch.

I think we have gotten so used to it! And more than anything we enjoy seeing how happy Julian is when he's out and about. He really doesn't care whether he's at Ikea shopping with us or at the park running around, he is just so excited to be out, see people, see things, run around!

Just seeing him laugh, giggle and seeing the excitement in his eyes makes us happy!

So every once in a blue moon there will be a lazy morning like this one.

Sleeping in (which is typically 8am nowadays)...

cuddling up in bed and watching cartoons together...

wearning PJ's all morning...

late breakfast...

coloring...

playing in the backyard or in the frontyard...

Yep, today was one of those mornings :)

I made homemade wheat banana pancakes.

Julian loved the hearts!

Lunch was actually at McDonald's. Julian requested to go there, and since we actually don't go very often, I got both of us dressed quickly, and his request was to sit inside and eat.

Hubby was back pretty quickly, so once Julian woke up form his nap we packed our bagpack and headed over to Lake Thonotosassa to look at the area and scout it as a possible home site.

The plan was to rush a little bit, since daylight savings time starts tonight, so we will loose an hour of sleep!

Luckily I have been getting Julian to bed early this week, and we had to get up early this week as well with my work schedule. So rather than the typical wake up call at 7:30am, Julian has been getting up between 6:30am and 7am.

We decided to have dinner at Carraba's, we all love it there.

And it's the one place my very picky hubby will inhale the Spicy Sausage Lentil Soup :) if they have it.

Yep, they had it!

My favorite dish there is the Spicy Linguini Pescatore... Linguini with shrimp, scallops and mussels in a spicy marinara sauce. Soo good!

Hubby always orders lasagne. I vary once in a while. The cheese pizza was for Julian :)

And because it's the weekend, we ordered dessert.

Warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream, yummy!!

Julian ate the icecream (he got sooo excited when the dessert came out, jumpping up and down on the seat yelling "Yay! Yay! Yum yum yum!!!!!" I love it!!) and I ate the apple tart... now with vanilla sauce or what was left of it!

Look at my poor baby...

when I picked him up yesterday he was running around throwing a huge ball up in the air and trying to catch it.
Suddenly I saw him trip over his own feet and he was headed right towards one of the the nanny's corner tables and would have hit it with his face, so I instintively reached out to grab him... but I had my keys in my hand! So I scratched him on his cheek with my nail, and my car key hit him on the nose between his eyes.
Of course there was blood and lots of crying :( My poor baby :( I do still feel that it would have been worse if he had crashed into the table with his face.

After I held him and comforted him for a few minutes he was still crying but I asked him if he felt any better.
His response "Not yeeet!"... *sob sob sob more crying*
Ok, both the nanny and I had to laugh about that one, it was too cute! Yes, we tried as hard as possible to suppress it :)

Strawberry season!!

Oh how I love strawberries and strawberry shortcake!!! The only time I ever took Julian there was when my parents were still here during their 4 month babysitting stay. Since I had the day off with him, and it was beautiful, I figured we'll go have some strawberry shortcake, buy some fresh fruits and veggies at the same time, at a great price!

Pro - the strawberry shortcake was delicious!! Con - Julian didn't care for it LOL, he took three bites, but at least he tried :) and he liked the whipped cream.

We only bought a small container of strawberries, hubby won't eat them and Julian does only sometimes, so these are just for me.

Ahhh... don't you just love all that "Kitsch"??? To me, this is so typical American! The big red strawberries, all so loud and bright, you couldn't find this anywhere in Europe!

We did have a great time though :) Just strolling around looking at the flowers and plants, and then Julian helped me pick out veggies, helped me bag them, and picked up veggies I dropped! He is the greatest little helper in the world!

Thursdays is $1.99 Happy Meals at McDonald's and since we really don't go there very often, I decided to take Julian there for lunch. He's been insisting on sitting inside whatever place we go, instead of picking things up to eat at home.
