July Photo a Day - #3

OMG I wasn't sure if I was going to make it in July!! Work has been so hectic, I spent 4 days in Cleveland, and Julian's birthday and first day at preschool are coming up in August, Doctor's appointments for the little one, we had another birthday party to go to, and so I haven't had much time to do much else, let alone spend any time on my MacBook.

OMG ich war mir echt nicht sicher, ob ich Juli ueberhaupt schaffen wuerde. In letzter Zeit ist es so extrem hecktisch in der Firma, dann war ich noch 4 Tage lang in Cleveland, Julians 3. Geburtstag ist schon bald da, sein 1. Kindergartentag ist Ende August, Artztermine fuer den Kleinen, auf einem anderen Kindergeburtstag eingeladen... Ihr seht, also echt kaum noch Zeit dafuer, mich abends an meinen MacBook zu setzen.

The good thing is that we decided to have a birthday party at the bowling alley for Julian, 2 hours of fun, drinks and food - and the best thing - all taken care of by someone else! I don't have to lift a finger!  Last year we had a big waterslide in our backyard (August is so freaking hot in Florida, if you don't want kids to be bored inside the house, you better give them some water outside!). It was lots of fun, but Julian would only go down the slide twice with us and refused to do it again. He sat in the poolend of the slide and happily watched everyone else come down. Last weekend we went to his little friend's birthday party with a big waterslide. Great test to see if we should repeat it this year - oh no... Julian refused to even get into his swimpants!

Allerdings haben wir uns endlich dazu entschieden, wie wir Julians 3. Geburtstag feiern werden - im Bowlingcenter! Zwei Stunden lang lustig feiern, und mit Essen und Trinken, und das tollste an allem - jemand anders plant und macht das alles! Ich  muss keinen Finger ruehren! Letztes Jahr hatten wir eine riesege Wasserrutsche bei uns im Garten, da es im August so extrem heiss ist in Florida, dass man den Kinder wenigstens etwas Wasserspass bieten muss, wenn man sie nicht die ganze Geburtstagsfeier ueber im Haus haben moechte. Es hat allen anderen unheimlich viel Spass gemacht, aber Julian ist nur zweimal mit uns runtergerutscht und hat sich danach geweigert. Er sass am Poolende vom der Rutsche und hatte Spass gehabt, allen beim Rutschen zuzugucken.

Letztes Wochenende waren wir auf einen Kindergeburtstag eingeladen, und dort gab es auch wieder eine grosse Wasserrutsche. Super, habe ich gedacht - mal testen, ob Julian dieses Jahr Spass daran hat. Aber oh nein - er wollte nicht mal die Badehose anziehen! Tja, und wir hatten doch eigentlich wieder eine schoene Wasserrutsche fuer seine Geburtstagsparty geplant.

We also went to the bowling alley last weekend, one of hubby's favorite places to take Julian on Mondays, which is Daddy & Julian day (hubby works Tue - Sat so he has Mondays off with the kiddo) and while I was enjoying the cool air conditioning and no humidity, the idea just hit me - let's have Julian's birthday party here! Hubby instantly agreed and we reserved two lanes. All we have to bring are the cake, balloons and goodie bags for the kids! Ha - I feel so much more relaxed!

On another note... Julian has been fully potty trained for a month now :) Yay! No more diapers! We just got an instant pay raise!

Wir waren am Wochenende auch im Bowlingcenter, Hubby liebt es Montags dort mit Julian Zeit zu verbringen. Ist bei uns um die Ecke, und Montags ist Daddy &  Julian Tag, da Hubby Dienstag - Samstag arbeitet und Montag also mit dem Sohnemann zu Hause bleibt. Als wir also dort lustigen Spass hatten und die kuehle Luft aus der Klimaanlage mir ins Gesicht wehte kam mir ploetzlich die Idee - wir koennen doch hier den Kindergeburtstag feiern! Hubby war sofort einverstanden und wir haben bereits zwei Bahnen reserviert. Wir muessen nur den Kuchen, Luftballons und was immer wir fuer die Kleinen als Mitbringsel dabei haben, mitbringen, und das war's! Alles andere wird vom Bowlingcenter besorgt, inklusive Essen, Getraenke, Eiskreme, Teller, Becher, Besteck, etc. Ich fuehle mich nun um Grade erleichtert und der Stress ist weg!

Uebrigens ist Julian nun seit einem Monat trocken - juchuuu, wir muessen keine Windeln mehr kaufen! Das war eine sofortige Gehaltserhoehung fuer uns :)

#17 - Addiction

You might be thinking who the heck is this (hot) guy? He's not my addiction, even though I think he's hot, but no - Thai TV Drama's aka Thai Soaps have been my addiction during my free time! When I have a few moments at night before going to bed, I like to grab my iPad and watch Thai soaps :) There is a great app from this website that streams all kinds of Thai TV shows and movies instantly online. *sigh* Thai dramas are just so very DRAMATIC, lots of tears, lots of heartache, lots of women fainting, lots of sappy stories, I just love it!

(BTW if you saw Bangkok Dangerous with Nicholas Cage, this is the guy who played the Thai guy, was it his guide? Sidekick?)

Ok - this was easy for me, I always take pictures of my food :) Do you know "Square 1 Burgers"? It just opened close to the mall and I love it! What a great new burger place - and so many great choices! I had the Lamb Burger with goat cheese and red onions. Yum.

Garlic Herb Bread Dip

What's better than fresh bread?

Was gibt's besseres als frisches Brot?

That's right, fresh bread with a homemade garlic herb dip!

Richtig, frisches Brot und ein selbstgemachter Dip mit viel Knobi und Krauetern!

If you have ever been to Carrabba's and you're a fan of their bread dip, you're in for a treat.

Falls Ihr jemals bei Carrabba's in den USA gegessen habt und ihr leckere Brotdips moegt, dann macht Euch auf etwas gefasst.

This delicious garlic herb dip comes pretty close to what they serve you at Carrabba's.

Dieser Dip schmeckt naemlich fast genauso wie bei Carrabba's.

Wait, actually, it's even better! Because it's homemade, you can whip it up any time, and because you can win friends and influence people with this. Just kidding.

Wartet - nee, es ist eigentlich noch besser! Weil Ihr es zu Hause selber machen koennt, und man damit Freunde gewinnen kann und wichtige Leute beieinflussen kann. Oder auch nicht :) 

 It really is so easy to make though, I don't know why I haven't made it before?

With a loaf of freshly baked bread from the local bakery, or if you have time - freshly baked bread straight from your oven or bread maker, this dip will make you come back for more and more.

Here is what you need for this gift from heaven (adapted from a recipe I found online)

1 tbsp minced fresh basil
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1 tbsp minced fresh garlic
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp minced fresh rosemary
1/2 tsp sea salt or kosher salt

Mix all ingredients together - I used a mortar a pestle to grind the garlic with the fresh herbs before I mixed with all the dry ingredients - put on a plate and drizzle extra virgin olive oil over it. Then dip your bread and enjoy!

And have a breathmint ready for afterwards :)
Jetzt aber mal im Ernst, das ist echt sooo schnell und einfach zuzubereiten, ich weiss gar nicht warum ich nie auf die Idee gekommen bin es frueher schon mal zu versuchen?

Mit einer Stange knusprigem Brot vom Baecker, oder (wenn Ihr fleissig seid) aus dem Ofen oder der Brotbackmaschine, werdet Ihr sicherlich total suechtig nach diesem Dip.

Das Rezept habe ich online gefunden, habe es aber abgewandelt:

1 EL frisch gehackter Basilikum
1 EL frisch gehackte Petersilie
1 EL frisch gehackter Knoblauch
1 TL getrockneter Thymian
1 TL getrockneter Oregano
1 TL schwarzer Pfeffer
1 TL frisch gehackter Rosmarin
1/2 TL grobkoerniges Salz

Alles gut zusammenmischen - es schmeckt am besten wenn man den Knoblauch zusammen mit den frisch gehackten Kraeutern im Moerser zerstoesst bevor man sie mit den trockenen Zutaten vermischt - auf einen Teller haeufen, mit Extra Virgin Olive Oil betraeufeln, Brot reindippen und geniessen!

Und fuer nachher Kaugummi oder Mentolpastillen bereithalten :)

I got back from my Cleveland trip yesterday and finally have some time to catch up with emails, messages and my favorite blogs. The weather was beautiful, we had great meetings, we had amazing food, and I'm so happy to be back with my hubby and my baby! Videocalls definitely helped bridge the distance a little bit, but I know my baby boy missed me terribly, he's not used to mommy being gone! But luckily I have a great hubby who is also a great daddy :)

Tomorrow Julian and I are going to a birthday party for my friend's two boys who just turned 3 and 6, and then we have to start planning Julian's 3rd birthday party, which is coming up in just 2 weeks! I'm having a slight panic attack!

Ich bin gestern erst von meiner Cleveland Reise zurueck gekommen und habe nun endlich ein wenig Zeit um auf Emails und Kommentare zu antworten, meine Lieblingsblogs zu durchstoebern. Das Wetter in Cleveland war einfach schoen, wir hatten tolle Meetings, das Essen war super, und ich bin sooo happy, dass ich wieder zu Hause bei meinen zwei Maennern bin! Mit Videocalls wurde die Trennung etwas leichter, aber mein kleiner Junge hat mich echt vermisst, er ist es einfach nicht gewohnt dass ich mal weg bin! Aber zum Glueck habe ich ja einen tollen Mann, der obendrauf auch noch ein toller Papa ist :)

Morgen gehen Julian und ich auf einen Kindergeburtstag, die Soehne meiner Freundin feiern den 3. und 6. Geburtstag und dann muessen wir uns auch schon auf Julians 3. Geburtstag vorbeireiten, denn die Party steigt in nur 2 Wochen! Ich werde hier leicht panisch!

July Birch Box

My 2nd month of getting a Birch Box in the mail. This month it was a Glamour Box (as in Glamour the magazine). The box that was mailed was still bright pink, but once you opened it, you saw this.

Ich habe meine zweite Birch Box im Postfach gefunden. Diesen Monat gab es eine Glamour Box (wie Glamour die Zeitschrift). Was im Postfach war, war noch eine Box in pink, aber nach dem Aufmachen begruesste mich dies hier.

I don't know why but opening it is fun. Turquoise instead of pink tissue this time.

Ich weiss auch nicht, aber die Box vorsichtig aufzumachen und zu sehen was sich drinnen verbirgt macht echt Spass. Diesmal nicht wieder pinkes Krepppapier sondern tuerkises.

Hach, die Farben sprechen mich schon mal an. Und wie... es gibt was zu Essen?

Oh you know me and food. Look at the cute content this month! I mean, the rest, other than the food.

Ach, ihr kennt mich doch und Essen. Guckt mal was da alles niedliches drin war in meiner Box.

I'm not always a bar kinda person, those protein bars etc. rarely taste great, but this morning I was running so late that I had to grab something so I grabbed this. And wow, it tastet really good! Just like Bananas Foster! With nuts and caramel!

Ich bin normalerweise keine Person die total auf diese Riegel so wie Proteinriegel usw steht. Die meisten schmecken einfach nicht so toll. Heute morgen war ich allerdings schon recht spaet dran und habe mir deswegen einfach dieses Teil hier geschnappt. Und ooohhhh es hat ja sooo gut geschmeckt! Nach Nuessen und Bananenen und Karamell, himmlisch!

I can't wait to use this next week when I travel to Cleveland. It's supposed to be hot and whenever I can get any control over my shiny oily face, I am all signed up!

Diese Tuecher werde ich naechste Woche auf jeden Fall gleich ausprobieren, da ich nach Cleveland fliegen muss. Es soll richtig heiss sein, und ich bin immer froh wenn ich etwas in der Tasche habe, um mein oeliges Gesicht zu kontrollieren.

I haven't opened this perfum yet... I wonder if it smells heavy and will give me a headache, or light and crisp and I will fall in love with it? I think I'm ready to fall in love with a new perfume! I love my Clinique Happy but it's getting old.

An diesem Perfum habe ich  noch gar nicht geschnuppert. Ob es wohl richtig doof riecht und mir Kopfschmerzen bereitet, oder ob es wohl richtig leicht und frisch riecht so dass ich mich gleich verliebe? Ich glaube es wird hoechste Zeit dass ich mich mal wieder in ein neues Perfuem verliebe! Ich liebe mein Clinique Happy zwar noch sehr, aber man muss ja auch mal was neues probieren.

You can never have enough ear buds for your phone :) or iPad :) I'll be taking this along next week as well.

Kopfhoerer sind immer praktisch :) Entweder fuer mein iPhone oder iPad :) Die wandern gleich in meine Tasche, die kommen naechste Woche mit!

I was actually excited about this - full size liquid black eyeliner! Hooray! Already used it, already love it! Easy to apply without smudging.

Ueber den Kajalstift habe ich mich echt gefreut... eine ganz normale Groesse, schwarz und fluessig! Juchu!! Ich habe es bereits benutzt und liebe es! Es laesst sich total leicht auftragen und schmiert nicht. 

Here you go... all the details! Now I have to pack for my Cleveland trip next week - Monday through Thursday. We are going to see Lean Six Sigma in action... as implemented and adopted by a manufacturing company.

And I'll get a chance to present some follow up on my own Lean Six Sigma project and see if we will get more resources to continue or if we will get the ax!

So, und hier sind die ganzen Details. Nun muss ich fuer meine Cleveland Reise packen, von Montag bis Donnerstag werde ich unterwegs sein. Wir werden uns ansehen duerfen wie man Lean Six Sigma in einer anderen Firma adoptiert hat. Und ich darf einige weitere Daten fuer mein eigenes Lean Six Sigma Projekt vorfuehren und werde dann wohl erfahren, ob mein Team weitermachen darf oder nicht!

Asian Style Fast Food

We spent last weekend in Ft Lauderdale at my cousin's house. Sunday morning my cousin and hubby took off doing guys stuff, and I chatted with my cousin's wife while she washed the dishes, and played with the kids. Honestly, I did offer to wash the dishes, but she shushed me away :) I know I could have just done it, but I really wanted to play with the kids :D

Das letzte Wochenende haben wir ja bei meinem Cousin in Ft Lauderdale verbracht. Sonntag morgen gingen Hubby und mein Cousin los, um Maennersachen zu machen. Ich bliebe zu Hause und habe mich nett mit der Frau meines Cousins unterhalten, waehrend sie abwusch. Ehrlich, ich habe ihr angeboten dabei zu helfen, aber sie hat mich aus der Kueche gescheucht. Ich weiss, ich weiss, ich haette darauf bestehen sollen, aber eigentlich ich wollte doch lieber mit den Kindern spielen :)

My cousin brought home lunch from a Chinese BBQ place, his wife cooked egg noodles for us, and that's what we had for a quick Asian style fast food lunch! Hubby was lucky that a Firehouse Subs was right next door - or else he would have been sitting there drinking Coke and smiling at us (he really smiles almost all day long) while we devoured the food. He doesn't eat this stuff! Just looking at the pictures makes my mouth water, I love Chinese BBQ! Ft Lauderdale has a lot of great restaurants and little food stores, I'm so jealous. Right next door was also another Chinese market that sells fresh rice noodles. I asked my cousin to buy me some for dinner that night in Tampa, and also show hubby where exactly the store was. Hubby is in Ft Lauderdale probably once a month for business, so now he knows exactly where to stop and get me something on the way home.

Mein Cousin brachte Mittagessen vom Chinesichen BBQ Restaurant, seine Frau hat Eiernudeln fuer uns gekocht und so hatten wir unser asiatisches Fast Food! Zum Glueck hatten sie nebenan ein Firehouse Subs fuer Hubby, sonst haette der Arme sich nur lieb laecheld (er laechelt wirklich meist den ganzen Tag lang!) mit uns an den Tisch gesetzt und seine Cola getrunken - sowas isst er alles naemlich gar nicht! Aber mir laeuft schon das Wasser im Munde zusammen, wenn ich mir nur die Fotos angucke. Ich liebe chinesisches BBQ! Ft Lauderdale hat wirklich viel zu bieten wenn es um tolle Restaurants und Laeden geht, ich platze vor Neid. Nebenan war noch ein anderer Laden, wo man frischgemachte Reisnudeln kaufen kann. Ich habe meinen Cousin darum gebeten, mir doch bitte eine Packung fuer Dinner an dem Abend mitzubringen. Und dann sollte er Hubby doch bitte ganz genau sagen, wo der Laden ist, damit er mir beim naechsten Mal auch etwas mitbringen kann. Von beiden Laeden. Hubby ist naemlich fast monatlich in Ft Lauderdale auf Geschaeftsreise.

On the left is grilled cuttlefish with a dipping sauce... it looks so plain but was sooo good! On the right is (EWWWWWW!) cow's stomach. Yep. We eat cow's stomach. Also more commonly known as Beef Tripe :)And I LOVE it, it's been one of my favorite things ever since I was a kid. And this cow's stomach (now I just like to say it) was sooo tasty! You didn't even any kind of dipping sauce, whatever spices they used to grill it made it perfect just the way it was.

Links seht ihr Tintenfisch gegrillt mit einer Sauce... es sieht ein bisschen simpel aus war aber sooo lecker! Rechts ist (iiiiihhhhgitttt!) Rinderpansen. Oh ja, wir essen sowas. Und ich LIEBE es - schon seit ich ein kleines Kind war. Und dieser Rinderpansen war sooo etwas von lecker, so richtig toll gewuerzt dass man die Sauce ueberhaupt nicht benutzen musste.

And last but not least an alltime favorite... Chinese barbequed duck! Love, love, love it! Quack!

I only took a picture of Julian's "kid friendly" noodle bowl - no green stuff. Ours had chopped cilantro, green onions, celery leaves and garlic. 

Leider habe ich nur ein Foto von Julians "kinderfreundlichen" Nudelschuessel gemacht - in unseren Nudeln waren noch Koriander, Sellerieblaetter, Schnittlauch und Knoblauch mit drin.

Herb garden reloaded & Liebster Blog Award

A while ago I bought a bunch of herbs and actually did the work and repotted them, etc. Once I get my lazy self to start doing gardening work, I actually really love it and it's hard to stop. I just can't myself to start doing it a lot of times. But isn't it always like that?? Well, if you are a procrastinator like I am, it is! I wish I were one of those energetic, motivated, always inspired, on the go kinda people who just get things done. But I just love my comfy laziness too much :)

It's hard to believe that so many states are in a drought right now. We've had so much rain in Florida this year and early on that our lawn didn't even have a chance to dry out and have some yellow spots at all this year. Ever since Tropical Storm Debby left a few weeks ago, we've had our steady, very normal for Florida daily showers. Even though sometimes they mess me up by visiting early during the day instead of appearing around 4pm like clockwork every day. The great thing is that we still have a few hours of sun in the morning, and the rain in the afternoon keeps us from having to water the lawn and plants, so our water bill has been low this year! The rain has been beautiful for our lawn and our herb garden though.

Here is my overabundant rosemary. I love this plant, it endures the highest heat and me forgetting to water it every once in a while! Oh, and it smells great and is yummy on roasted potatoes.

Vor einigen Wochen habe ich mir verschiedene Kräuter für unseren Garten gekauft, habe neue Töpfe gekauft und sie richtig schön umgetopft und hübsch hingestellt. Wenn ich schon mal mit der Gartenarbeit anfange finde ich es total entspannend und kann kaum damit aufhören, weil es mir so viel Spass macht. Allerdings ist mein Problem dass ich mich oft gar nicht dazu aufraffen kann, damit anzufangen! Aber das ist bei mir häufig so! Ich schiebe die Dinge einfach gerne vor mich hin. Ich wünschte ich wäre so eine Person die richtig motiviert ist, inspiriert, immer gleich tolle Ideen umsetzt und die einfach immer das unmögliche schafft. Aber ich liebe das Faulenzen einfach zu sehr :)


Es ist kaum vorstellbar das einige US Staaten gerade eine schlimme Trockenzeit mitmachen, denn hier in Florida regnet es dieses Jahr extrem viel. Unser Rasen, der im Sommer sehr oft gelb und trocken wird, hatte dieses Jahr überhaupt keine Chance gehabt, er ist grün und saftig und dass ohne dass wir ihn wässern müssen! Das hilft natürlich bei der monatlichen Wasserrechnung :) Seitdem Debby uns verlassen hat haben wir tägliche Regenfälle, meist ganz pünktlich so gegen 16:00 nachmittags. Schön ist es, dass wir morgens dann meist mit einigen Stunden Sonnenschein rechnen können und unseren Tag planen können, aber ab und zu mal setzt uns der Regen doch einen Strich durch den Rechnung und es regnet plötzlich morgens oder schon mittags. Unser Rasen und Kräutergarten lieben diesen Regen allerdings sehr. 


Hier ist mein Rosmarin. Ich liebe diese Pflanze, sie überlebt die heissesten Tage Floridas sogar falls ich mal vergesse sie zu giessen. Und sie riecht ja so wunderbar und schmeckt so toll auf gerösteten Kartoffeln.

My other overabundant herb, may I introduce my basil. I have to pinch off the tips almost daily. But it's so great in pasta, homemade pesto, and salads.

Mein Basilikum ist kaum aufzuhalten. Ich muss so gut wie jeden Tag hier und da ein wenig zupfen, damit sie weiterhin schön buschig wächst und nicht zu gross wird. Basilikum schmeckt auch einfach so toll, ob in Salaten, Pasta oder als Pesto.

My oregano is growing a little crazy too. It smells like Italy!

Mein Oregano gedeiht auch sehr schön und riecht einfach nach Italien!

My ripe tomatoes! This year they've had funky stuff on the leaves though, some form of pest? And since we don't spray pesticides, I just have to deal with them :(

Meine reifen Tomaten! Dieses Jahr leider mit etwas befallen worden ich weiss nicht genau was, aber da wir auch nicht spritzen muss ich wohl damit leben :(

Here is my Thai basil, it's been growing beautifully as well. I use this quite a bit with my Thai food, especially curries. Yum. And it's great in Vietnamese Style fresh spring rolls too. And aren't the purple flowers kinda cute?

Mein thailändischer Basilikum wächst auch nett heran und wird sehr häufig benutzt, vor allem wenn ich Curies koche. Oder in frischen vietnamesischen Springrolls sind sie auch unheimlich lecker. Sehen die lilalen Blüten nicht niedlich aus?

The sage is really cute too, it's fuzzy! And in the left lower corner is my thyme.

I'm sad to say that my most favorite herb of all, the cilantro, has died :( I replaced it once and that has died as well :( I just don't have any luck with growing cilantro. Any tips??

Leider ist mein Koriander gestorben :( Und obwohl ich ihn ersetzt habe, ist auch die zweite Pflanze kläglich gestorben. was mache ich nur falsch? Hat jemand Tipps?

And now I finally have time to share something pretty awesome... Das war ja eine Riesenüberraschung und ich habe mich unheimlich gefreut! Ann-Kathrins wunderschöner Blog ist zu einem meiner Lieblingsbergs geworden, dort schaue ich immer gierig vorbei wenn sie einen neuen Post hat, da sie immer so lecker kocht, tolle Rezepte teilt und alles sehr schön fotografiert.
