Polka dots and flowers

There is hardly anything better than polka dots and freshly picked flowers!

At least when they are this cute! I was browsing Amazon (again! I just love Amazon, and can spent too much time browsing and... that "Buy with 1 Click" button is just way too dangerous) and found this adorable pink and white polka dot coffee mug. I had to have it. And it finally arrived in the mail yesterday (I also love 2 day free shipping on Amazon Prime). The mug is a sturdy porcelain mug and the cover is this soft rubbery thing. It was kinda of hard to put on at first, but I got the hang of it eventually. I like the fact that I can just take the rubbery thing off, and use the mug at home - you can't even tell it's a to-go mug! And when I'm ready to leave, I just slip on the rubbery cover and I'm all set!

Es gibt nichts schoeneres als Polka dots und Blumen!

Wenigstens nicht, wenn sie so niedlich sind wie hier! Ich war auf Amazon unterwegs (schon wieder! Hach ich liebe Amazon einfach und verschwende viel zu viel Zeit auf der Site... und das "Mit einem Klick" Button - oehm, wie nennt sich das auf Amazon.de? - ist viel zu gefaehrlich) und habe diese wunderschoene To-Go Tasse in rosa mit weissen Punkten gefunden. Gestern wurde sie endlich geliefert (ich liebe uebrigens auch 2 Day Free Shipping mit Amazon Prime). Die Tasse ist aus festem Porzellan und der Deckel ist so ein weiches Gummiteil. Anfangs war es etwas schwierig den Deckel raufzutun, aber dann hab ich's doch geschafft. Und nun mag ich es total, das ich die Tasse auch ohne Deckel wunderbar zu Hause benutzen kann - man sieht ueberhaupt nicht, dass es eine To-Go Tasse ist! Und wenn ich raus muss, kommt der Deckel schwupps rauf und ich kann los!

We were taking a stroll around the neighborhood and sat by the pond. Julian was so excited to see these little flowers everywhere and picked me a whole bunch. My very first bunch of flowers he picked me :) I love them!

Wir waren letztens spazieren und waren am Teich. Julian hat sich so sehr gefreut die ganzen Bluemchen zu sehen und hat gleich welche fuer mich gepflueckt. Das hier ist der allererste Blumenstrauss den er selbst gepflueckt hat :) Ich find ihn toll!

Ok, I was lying, there are things much better than polka dots and flowers...

Na ok, ich hab gelogen, es gibt doch Schoeneres auf dieser Welt als Polka dots und Blumen...

Little shopping trip

These are pictures from last weekend. Hubby was out of town, so Julian and I went out on a little shopping trip. I love discount places like Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, Bealls, TJMaxx, and Home Goods. You never know what you will find, and the deals are almost always great!

Diese Fotos sind noch von letzter Woche. Hubby war auf Geschäftsreise also waren Julian und ich einkaufen. Ich liebe diese Discount Läden wie Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, Bealls, TJMaxx, und Home Golds. Was weiss nie was für Schnäppchen man findet, und die Preise sind fast immer super!

I spilled chocolate milk on my wallet the week prior and I just fell in love with this cute little thing.

Letzte Woche habe ich Kakao über mein Portemonnaie verschüttet und ich habe mich in dieses süße Teilchen verliebt. 

You can never have too many cute note books. At least not in my world. I am a desperate collector of little notebooks or diaries. I will never have enough time to fill all of them out! But I can't resist buying them! Especially when they are this cute, and only cost $3.99.

Man kann nie genug bezaubernde kleine Notizbücher haben. Auf jeden Fall ist das so in meiner Welt. Ich bin leidenschaftliche Sammlerin all niedlicher Notizbücher und Tagebücher. Ich werde niemals im Leben genug Zeit haben, um sie alle zu benutzen! Aber bei einem Schnapppreis von $3.99 konnte ich nicht nein sagen.

I also scored this little Farberware knife with cutting board. I just love the turquoise!

Das kleine Messer von Farberware zusammen mit Schneidebrett habe ich auch ergattert. Ich liebe das Türkis!

Julian had the heart shaped paste for lunch, and some of my rice vermicelli with soy sauce. I made stir fried chicken livers and  gizzards in a Thai garlic sauce over a bed of thin rice vermicelli. I know, some of you think "Ewwww!" but growing up in a Thai household, I have been eating these since I was a little girl. And I just love them! 

Julian hat die herzfoermigen Nudeln zu Mittag gekriegt, und hat ein wenig von meinen Reisnudeln mit Sojasauce vertilgt. Ich hatte Hühnerleber mit "gizzards" (mir fällt im Moment das deutsche Worte nicht ein und ich bin zu faul es zu googeln) in thailändischer Knoblauchsauce über dünnen Reisnudeln. Ja ja, einige von Euch denken nun sicher "Igitt!" aber da ich in einem thailändischen Haushalt aufgewachsen bin, gehören Leber und andere Innereien schon seit Kindertagen mit auf den Tisch. Und ich liebe sie einfach!

Zum Nachtisch gab es einen Dulce de Leche Cupcake von der Moreno Bakery... superlecker!

Easter egg hunt

The Easter bunny was good to Julian this year!

A big Easter basket in the backyard, one inside the house, and lots of goodies - chocolate, candy, books and toys! 

Der Osterhase hat es dieses Jahr echt gut gemeint mit Julian!

Ein grosser Osterkorb im Garten, einer in seinem Zimmer, und ganz viele schöne Sachen - Schokolade, Süßigkeiten, Bücher und Spielsachen!

It was so much fun watching him look around the yard, then hopping and running around to grab his easter eggs. So much joy on such a little face :)

Es hat einfach nur Spass gemacht, ihn zu beobachten... wie sein Blick im Garten umherwanderte, und er dann hüpfend und rennend seine Ostereier einsammelte!

A few of my German friends once asked why we were hiding plastic eggs in the yard? I wish we could hide chocolate eggs! But they would melt way too fast here in Florida! I don't remember ever getting anything but chocolate eggs and real eggs for Easter when I was a kid. And you?

Ein paar meiner deutschen Freunde haben mal gefragt warum wir diese komischen Plastikeier verstecken?  Richtige Schokoladen Eier wären toll, aber die würden hier in Florida viel zu schnell schmelzen! Also ich habe als Kind auch nichts anderes als Schokoladeneier und richtige Eier bekommen. Und Ihr?

The weather was so gorgeous that we spent all day out in the yard, eating on the patio, and playing ball until sun set :)

Das Wetter war so schön, dass wir den ganzen Tag im Garten verbracht haben, wir haben draussen gegessen und bis zum Sonnenuntergang mit dem Ball gespielt :)

Easter and my first cake pops

Life has been so busy recently that I haven't had any time to post anything!

I thought I could start blogging in German as well. I have recently found so many great bilingual German blogs that I thought - why not me?

Plus my German has become pretty bad in the 18 years I've spent in the US, to this is great practice for me :) You have my permission to laugh at my mistakes or if you notice something sounding a little strange! My friends often tell me anyway that my written German often sounds "english".

In letzter Zeit war hier mal wieder soooo viel los, dass ich gar nicht zum bloggen gekommen bin.

Ich habe mir gedacht, dass ich eigentlich auch mal auf deutsch bloggen koennte. Ich habe in letzter Zeit so viele schoene deutsche Blogs gelesen und einige bloggen zweisprachig, warum nicht auch ich?

Ausserdem ist mein deutsch in den 18 Jahren hier in den USA schon ziemlich schlecht geworden, und so habe ich doch etwas mehr Uebung :) Ihr duerft Euch also gerne kringelig lachen, wenn ich hier etwas falsches schreibe, oder es sich manchmal etwas seltsam liest! Meine Freunde sagen mir eh oft dass sich mein geschriebenes deutsch oft "englisch" anhoert. Also machen wir das jetzt mal so :)

I took Good Friday off to spend time at home with my little one and do some crafty eastery stuff :) BTW Good Friday isn't a paid holiday as it is customary in Germany. They have Eastermonday off as well!

Last year he was still a little too small to be interested, but this year was so much fun with him!

Karfreitag habe ich mir freigenommen damit ich mit dem kleinen Mann ein bisschen fuer Ostern basteln konnte. Karfreitag ist hier uebrigens nicht so wie in Deutschland ein Feiertag! Auch Ostermontag muss man schon wieder zur Arbeit!

Letztes Jahr war er noch etwas zu klein um sich fuer die Bastelarbeiten zu interessieren, aber dieses Jahr hatte er echt Spass gehabt!

I found these adorable Easter Cake pop kits from Duff at Target... I love his show on the Food Network! Only $9.99 and it had everything to make 10 cake pops, perfect for my first time! Since I just discovered my baking obsession I was too intimidated to try these before. But what can go wrong with a kit right?

Bei Target gab's diese suessen Oster Cake Pop Kits von Duff... ich liebe seine Show auf dem Food Network! Hat nur $9.99 gekostest und alles was man fuer 10 Cake Pops brauchte war drin, genau richtig fuer das erste Mal! Da ich meine Backliebe erst vor kurzem entdeckt hatte, habe ich mich vorher nie an diese Cake Pops rangetraut, aber mit dem Kit kann man doch eigentlich nichts falsch machen, oder nicht?

Ready to make the pops!! Julian was just excited to stir the candy melts. Next time I would definitely melt them in a smaller dish or a cup to make sure I can actually dip the pops, it was kinda difficult in the big bowl.

Wir koennen loslegen!! Julian war einfach nur scharf darauf die Schokolade umzuruehen. Das naechste Mal werde ich die Schoki aber in einer kleineren Schuessel schmelzen, oder sogar in einer Tasse. Die Glasur war schon schwierig in der groesseren Schuessel.

Here is our finished product... all 10 of them! I think they turned out pretty cute for our first time! And they were definitely delicious and were a nice pink on the inside!

Und so sahen sie am Ende aus... alle 10! Ich finde das sie eigentlich ganz niedlich aussehen, vor allem dafuer, dass es unser erstes Mal war! Und geschmeckt haben sie auch! Und waren drinnen schoen pink!

Laptop lunchboxes

I was browsing my Martha Stewart Everyday Food magazine on my iPad app Monday night and stumbled across this little feature about a dad who packs his son's lunch every day and writes about it on his blog Lunchboxblues.

How cute is that??

Underneath was a link for another website Laptop Lunches, so I had to check that out as well.

Oh so many cute options!!! And I have been trying to pack my own lunch more often, it's cheaper and healthier as well.

I quickly googled and found a coupon code for the site (use WASTEFREE for 10% off) and orderd this cute little combination, which was already reduced.

I can't wait to get my new laptop lunchbox system in the mail!

Sunday funday

Today is Tanja's last day with us before she heads back to Hamburg (OMG it's snowing over there!!!).

She loves going to the Thai temple to have noodle soup, so that's what we did today!

Not without a quick FaceTime session with my parents in Bangkok.

I already felt guilty for mssing their call last weekend since we were so busy with our guest.

Julian's newest game to play with his daddy is "Door Salesperson" lol

Hubby will knock at the bedroom door.

Julian opens the door.

Hubby does his sales spiel "Hello sir, I am selling vaccuum cleaners, would you be interested in buying one?" (he does it much better... the things he comes up with!)

Julian patiently listens to daddy's sales pitch, then holds out 3 fingers (he has to keep the other two down with his other hand) and tells his daddy "Yes, 3 please".

Hubby tries to upsell "Only 3? But these are highly efficient vacuum cleaners, can I possibly interest you in buying 5?"

Juilian thinks for a moment "hmmmmm..."

Then nods and says "No, 4"

Hubby closes the deal and says "Thank you sir"

Julian responds "You're welcome" and slams the door shut!

They played the same game over and over and over... at least 30 minutes lol

In the end hubby ran out of things to sell to our little man :)

It was simply gorgeous at the temple today. We had quite a lot of rain last night, so it cooled down a bit, the sky was blue, the sun was out and the temple was crowded again!

Hubby (in the red shirt and sunglasses) and Julian on the dock feeding the catfish with bread.

For some reason they decided to like the sticky rice another kid was feeding them with!

Julian didn't care though, he happily ate the honeywheat bread the fish didn't eat :)

And we saw the big choo choo train drive by... the highlight of his day!

Shopping Day

Hubby had to work again, so Tanja and I went shopping... with Julian of course :)

He found this cute little kid size lawn chair with an umbrella! Too cute! Made from cedar, $69.99 at Costco!

Tanja wanted to try the new Vietnamese restaurant I showed her, so we stopped there for lunch.

After a nice long lap, we all had dinner at Little Harbor, where my little silly monkey wanted to walk in the sand... held by mommy or daddy! He did not want his feet in the sand, he said it was "ick"! Oh yes... we have to work on this again now that it's starting to get hot.

The food was delicious as always.

I ordered the crab cake sandwich. The side was jicama slow with edamame and pineapple, very light and crisp!
